Dannie H. Chapman, Jr., age 62 years, a resident of Jonesboro, Illinois, passed away Monday evening, June 27, 2016, at 10:00 PM at his home.

Dannie was born September 9, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the third of four children born to Rev. Dannie H. Chapman, Sr. and Audrey (Worthen) Chapman. Dannie spent his childhood and much of his youth in Mattoon, Illinois prior to the family moving to Southern Illinois in 1970.

Dannie was united in marriage to Laurie Dukes on December 26, 1992 in Ozark, Illinois. He was later united in marriage to Carol Ann Whightsel on October 17, 2015 in Mattoon. She survives.

Other survivors include: his son – Dannie A. Chapman of Vienna; 2 sisters – Dianne (her husband, Steve) Watkins of rural Grantsburg and Theresa (her husband, Wayne) Bradley of Carrier Mills; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dannie was preceded in death by an infant brother – Dannie Allen Chapman.

Dannie was a 1971 graduate of the Pope County Community High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Dannie was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Orleck (DD886) and served from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1975.

Dannie was employed for 28 years by the U.S. Postal Service. He worked primarily as a rural letter carrier for the Cobden, Illinois post office, prior to his retirement in 2015.

Dannie was a sports enthusiast and had served as an umpire for the Johnson County Youth League. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the Union County Country Club.

A memorial service honoring the life of Dannie H. Chapman, Jr. will be conducted Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2016, at 4 PM at Freedom Outreach Ministries, 5515 State Route 146 East, Vienna. Pastor Tyler Owens will officiate. Military honors and flag presentation ceremony will be accorded.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 PM – 4 PM Saturday at the church.
